Close-Up Mining

What we do: Close-Up Mining is a mining services company. Its first projects / contracts carried out were essentially on a sub contract basis and included topsoil, overburden and coal removal on a BHP Billiton site, namely Eikeboom. From there the company expanded and has worked on the following sites: Tweefontein (Xstrata), Isibonelo (Anglo Coal) ,Pullenshope (BHP Billiton), Kwagga (Optimum Coal), Douglas (BHP Billiton), Kriel Colliery (Anglo Coal) and Kendal (Homelands Energy Corp), Graspan Colliery (Shanduka Coal), Hakhano Colliery (Umthombo Resources).

Ownership & Management: Close-Up Mining was previously only owner managed but has since provided BEE shareholding of 26% with the intention of increasing its BEE shareholding to 100%. The company has level 4 BBBEEE status. Due to the shareholding of Fraser Alexander in Close-Up Mining the board also includes two directors nominated by Fraser Alexander to represent Fraser Alexander’s interest in the company. The company has a strong management including a Financial Director who is a chartered accountant (Gerhard Janse van Rensburg). The Managing Director (Pieter Tenner) has 25 years’ experience in the opencast mining field having worked on opencast mining projects in South Africa, Zambia and Congo. Pieter has experience on copper, platinum and coal mines.

Key financial indicators: Not provided. Close-Up is involved in complete mining projects in all facets from establishment of new box-cuts to rehabilitation of mines as required by its customers. The company offers mining services in areas of mining, earthmoving and plant hire.
