Merchant Capital shows real impact through funding over 7,000 businesses in South Africa

Merchant Capital, a South African fintech company has provided over R1.5-billion (US$90- million) in funding over 7,000 businesses since its establishment. The company addresses the funding gap experienced by small business owners looking to grow with quick access to unsecured working capital to retail sectors such as restaurants, hospitality businesses, supermarkets, fuel, health, fashion, jewelers and hardware stores among others. Merchant Capital enables flexible repayment terms agreed upfront with the business owners, thereby catering to their specific business requirements.

Merchant Capital was established in 2012 and has since expanded its shareholder base to major multinational financial institutions such as  Capricorn Capital Partners, Rand Merchant Investment Holdings and Standard Bank. Merchant Capital is one of the founding members of the South African SME Finance Association (SASFA), a national, self-regulating body for alternative finance companies.
