Serena Ventures, the venture capital firm founded by legendary tennis star Serena Williams, has invested in Stears Business in a US$3.3-million funding round. Stears Business provides online business news analysis and insights through its network of journalists and professionals in banking, consulting, law, academia, government and civil society. Stears Business was founded in 2017 by a team of Nigerian economists, lawyers and engineers (Preston Ideh, Abdul Abdulrahim, Foluso Ogunlana & Michael Famoroti) while they were all studying in the London School of Economics and other institutions in the UK.
Serena Ventures is venture capital firm established in 2014 to invest in under-represented founders, women founders and black founders. It has invested in Calico, Bunch, Susu, Chatdesk, Fiveable, Foody, Infinite Objects, Lolli and Nestcoin among many others. The firm has raised US$111-million to deploy to startups. The firm’s limited partners include companies such as Norwest, Capital G, Kapor Foundation and Liontree among others.
